The Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway

The Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway

Steam into the heart of the Lake District National Park with the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway

Established in 1973 their family-run business lovingly restores & maintains it's fleet of locomotives and traditional 1950's carriages; operating daily passenger trains throughout the season.

Formally part of the Furness Railway branch line and steeped in local history, what remains of the line is their 3 1/2 mile journey through the English countryside to Lakeside; where most of the scenic Lake Vies can be enjoyed within this World Heritage Site.

Parts of their Victorian Station date back as far as the late 1860's, further additions have been sympathetically developed to offer something for everyone. From the woodland playground to the gift shop and everything in between.

Free Entry to the Engine Shed. Home to their fleet of steam locomotives, here you will find their magnificent Fairburn Class 4 MT tank engines, th only locos of that type remaining in the world!
