Windermere Jetty

Windermere Jetty

Discover boats, steam, stories, and much more at this Lake District's all-weather attraction. Opened in 2019.

The friendly crew are ready to welcome you to their stunning museum on the shores of Lake Windermere. you can see motorboats, steam launches, sailing yachts, and record-breaking speed boats in their modern interactive galleries on the water and in their boathouse. Nowhere else in the world can you see such a unique collection that tells the story of Windermere's 200-year boating history, and no location could be more perfect.

Windermere's boating history is about the local people. They tell their stories from the 18th century to the present day, from boat owners, boat builders, adventures and record breakers, to the world-famous literary figures, Beatrix Potter and Arthur Ransome.

In our conservation workshop see their boat builders use traditional skills to conserve and restore vessels that would otherwise be lost to history. Meet their boats including ML Dolly, thought to be the oldest mechanically powered boat in the world, Beatrix Potter's tarn boat in which she used to sketch, and the 50ft luxuriously, designed Victorian steam launch Branksome.
