A place to rest, reflect, and reconnect with the things that matter most. Built in 1879 as a private countryside retreat, Lindeth Howe has always offered sanctuary to those seeking a slower pace, a deeper breath, and a heartfelt pause from the bustle of everyday life.

From the moment you cross the threshold, you’ll be welcomed not just as a guest, but as part of the story. The warm welcome, the view beyond the windows, the gentle hush of the hills, all weave together into a tapestry of comfort and quiet wonder. Here, the past is never far away. Among those was the Potter family, whose spirit remains gently threaded throughout the building. It was in this haven that Beatrix Potter found joy and peace, and in an expression of deep affection, purchased the house for her mother. That act of love preserved Lindeth Howe's charm for generations to come. Today, the echoes of Beatrix’s world still linger, from the delicate photographs taken by her father Rupert Potter to our logo, which features Beatrix’s own handwriting, an enduring touchstone of a cherished legacy.

We are honoured to be recognised for the care we place in every detail. Lindeth Howe is the proud recipient of VisitEngland’s prestigious Gold Award and in 2023, we were named Cumbria Tourism’s Wedding Venue of the Year. That same year, we received the VisitEngland Rose Award for outstanding service, an accolade awarded to only a select few properties, reflecting our deep commitment to excellence and hospitality.

A recent and treasured moment in our story unfolded on 27th September 2021, when HRH The Earl of Wessex visited Lindeth Howe to dine with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award team. This special occasion, noted in the Royal Family’s official Court Circular, was a proud honour that reflected our ongoing role as a home for gathering, celebration, and reflection.
